Editorial Standards
Aana Avanna publishes content about Tamil and Sri Lankan heritage, culture, history and faith. Because these subjects touch on identity, religion and community, we hold ourselves to clear editorial principles.
Our commitment
We aim to produce content that is accurate, fair, nuanced and respectful of the communities we write about. We do not publish content designed to demean, misrepresent or flatten the diversity within Tamil and Sri Lankan life.
Research and sourcing
Our editorial content draws on established academic scholarship, institutional sources, primary documents and, where appropriate, community knowledge. We name our sources. Where evidence is debated or contested, we say so rather than presenting one interpretation as settled fact.
We do not rely on unverified social media claims, anonymous sources or AI-generated content as primary evidence. Where we draw on secondary sources, we aim to trace claims back to their origin.
Representing identity
Tamil and Sri Lankan identities are diverse. We do not treat any single regional, religious, caste or national community as the default representative of the whole. We distinguish between Sri Lankan Tamils, Indian Tamils, Malaiyaha Tamils and other communities where the distinction matters. We do not impose ethnic or religious labels on communities that identify differently.
Religious and cultural sensitivity
We cover Hindu, Christian, Muslim and secular Tamil perspectives. We aim to represent each tradition on its own terms rather than through the assumptions of another. We distinguish between religious practice, cultural custom and folk belief, and we explain those distinctions where they are relevant.
Editorial independence
Editorial content on Aana Avanna is produced independently of commercial relationships. Vendor features, product listings and sponsored content are clearly identified as such and do not influence the editorial positions taken in our cultural and heritage articles.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and transparently. See our Corrections Policy for details.
